Peter Holland

International Policy Director

Peter was appointed Director of International Policy in August 2008.

Peter began his career in 1988 as an NHS general management trainee. He spent most of his 11 years in the NHS working in south London developing primary and community health services.

Peter Holland has been a Foreign Office (FCO) civil servant since 1999. His first jobs in the FCO were as desk officer and then deputy head in the Drugs and International Crime Department.

Between 2001-2004 he spent three years at the British High Commission, New Delhi covering Indian domestic politics and human rights issues.

Most recently, from February 2005 until the end of last year, Peter headed the Afghan Drugs Inter-Departmental Unit, a cross-departmental team which led the UK's effort as international lead of the counter narcotics campaign in Afghanistan. Since then he has managed a small team attached to the Cabinet Office responsible for co-ordinating the UK's overall Afghanistan strategy.
