Andrew Layton

Trade Marks and Designs Director

Andy joined the office in January 2008 as Director of Trade marks and Designs. From 2004 until he joined the office, he was the director in DTI (and then BERR) responsible for civil nuclear energy liabilities policy and for the establishment and subsequent oversight of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. He held earlier posts in the Export Control Organization of DTI, managing the teams responsible for assessing applications submitted by companies and individuals for licences to export strategically controlled goods.

Before joining DTI, Andy had an earlier career as an officer and then governor grade in HM Prison Service in which he had a number of operational and policy jobs.

He lives with his partner and two children in the countryside surrounding Bath.
