Welsh Language Scheme

Our Welsh Language scheme has been prepared under the Welsh Language Act 1993, which puts Welsh and English on an equal basis in public life in Wales.

The Act specifies three things:

  • It places a duty on the public sector to treat Welsh and English on an equal basis, when providing service to the public in Wales;
  • It gives Welsh speakers an absolute right to speak Welsh in court;
  • It establishes the Welsh Language Board to oversee the delivery of these promises and to promote and facilitate the use of the Welsh language scheme.

Our scheme sets out how we will explain and offer the IP system for those customers wishing to register their IP rights in the United Kingdom through the medium of Welsh in so far as is appropriate to the circumstances and reasonably practicable.

A Welsh version of this page is available.

We are currently developing the Welsh language pages as a part of a wholesale review of our website.
