Changing or renewing your registered design

You can change or renew the details of your registered design in various ways.

Changing

Change or appoint an agent

You can appoint a specialist attorney, to deal with your application or some complicated part of the procedures for you.

Change your name or address

If you change your name or address you should tell us so that we can update the register of designs.

Correct an error

This allows you to correct any errors or omissions in your own or someone else’s registered design.

Cancelling or Invalidating

You can cancel your design registration at any time. The penalties of cancellation are quite far-reaching.

Renewing

Renewing your design

To keep your registered design in force, you must renew it on the 5th anniversary of the registration date and every 5 years after that.

Restoration

If you registered your design on or after 1 August 1989 and you do not renew it in the 6 months after the renewal date, you have a further 6 months, to apply to restore your registration.
