Using and buying designs

Design registration gives the owner a monopoly on their product design and is additional to any design right or copyright protection that may exist automatically in the design.

The owner can grant others permission (licence) to use their design. Designs can be sold.

Certified & uncertified copies

We will supply a copy of a design or design application, upon request and payment of the fee.

Infringing

If you use an identical or similar design already in use - you are likely to be infringing the earlier design.

Buying

Transferring ownership

If you transfer ownership of your design to someone else, you must tell us so we can record the change in the register of designs.
