The National IP Enforcement Report 2005

This is the second report produced since Lord Sainsbury launched the National IP Crime Strategy in 2004. The Report shows that the Intellectual Property (IP) Crime Group framework is a solid foundation from which to further develop the Strategy. In particular business, government and enforcement agencies are continuing to work together effectively to deter those who are involved with IP Crime.

This Report provides an even more comprehensive assessment of the scope and scale of the IP Crime scene in the United Kingdom (UK). It builds on the knowledge gained since the last report, reflecting on the trends of IP Crime and how by working together we have set about responding to what is a growing and threatening illegal activity.

The range of contributors to the report shows the variety of stakeholders committed to working together to tackle this problem, and the contributions themselves give evidence of how progress has already been made.

The report also identifies that

  • Good intelligence is the key to effective targeting of criminal activity.
  • Action at international level is every bit as important as within the UK.
  • The role of the Internet is becoming more and more significant.
