Using your trade marks

Licensing

A licence gives you permission to use someone else's trade marks. The terms of the licence are between you and the licensor and we do not have any powers to investigate the validity of any licence you might agree.

You or the licensor should use the Form TM50 PDF document(31Kb) to tell us about the licence which we will record on the trade marks register.

When your licence agreement ends or the licensees details are changed you should use the

Form TM51 PDF document(30Kb)so that we can record this on the register.

There is no fee for either of these

Mortgaging

You can use your trade mark as security for a loan. The mortgagor has a legal right in your trade mark until you repay the loan. You or your mortgagor should register the mortgage with us on Form TM24 PDF document(32Kb), and we will then record it in the register. When it has been repaid we can cancel the details from the register.

You can also record a financial interest in someone else's registered trade mark.

Marketing

You may want to involve others to help exploit, develop or marketing your trade mark. We do not give direct advice on this, but help is available.
